Your first project
Create a project from a template, write, and compile.
A Polemic project is a folder on your disk with your .tex and .bib files in it.
There is nothing to import or export: open the same folder in any other editor and it
works there too.
Create a project
From the projects screen, create a new project and pick a template:
| Template | What you get |
|---|---|
| No template | An empty project folder. |
| Article | A clean article with sections, math, and a bibliography. |
| Report | A structured report with a title page, abstract, and chapters. |
| Presentation | A Beamer slide deck with a title slide and section frames. |
| Thesis | A thesis with chapters in separate files and a title page. |
You can also open an existing folder with LaTeX files in it.
Write and compile
Edit your main .tex file and press Cmd/Ctrl + S. That saves the
file and compiles the project; the PDF preview updates next to the editor.
Where does the output go?
Polemic runs latexmk with -outdir=build, so the PDF and the auxiliary files land
in a build/ folder inside your project. Your source folder stays clean.
Find your way around
- Left rail: files, outline, symbols, assets, labels and bibliography, plus the issues list, the compile log and project search.
- Right rail: snapshots or Git (depending on your version control setting), comments, and the properties of the current selection.
- Preview: the compiled PDF, next to the editor.
- Command palette: Cmd/Ctrl + P reaches every command.
Next, learn the code editor or try the visual editor.
