Bibliography
BibTeX files, Zotero and keeping citations in order.
The Bibliography tab
The Bibliography tab collects the entries of every .bib file in your project,
grouped by type and searchable. Click an entry to jump to it in its file. Each entry
shows how often it is cited; unused entries are marked, and keys you cite but never
define get their own section.
Citation commands insert in the right form for the packages you load: the plain
\cite family, natbib or biblatex.
Editing entries
Open an entry to edit it in a form: key, type and fields. Polemic warns about missing
required fields for the entry type and blocks duplicate keys. Changes are written in
place, so the rest of your .bib file keeps its formatting.
Press F2 on a key to rename it. Polemic updates the .bib entry and every
\cite in every .tex file.
Sources
Sources are the places your references come from, shared across all your projects. Configure them in Settings → Bibliography (Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + 2):
.bibfiles or folders anywhere on your disk. They are read in place and never copied or changed.- Zotero desktop, through its local API. No API key is needed; Zotero must be running.
- Zotero web, with an API key. You can add several, each with its own label.
Use Add from Sources… in the Bibliography tab to search all enabled sources at once. A reference you pick is copied into the project's bibliography, with a generated key (surname and year) that does not clash with existing ones.
Better BibTeX keys
Citation keys from the Better BibTeX plugin for Zotero are not read yet.
